Special Projects example:
The 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Torch Relay
Clients: The Coca-Cola Company & General Motors Corporation.
Assignment: The 62-day Olympic Torch Relay, day to day still coverage. Getting photos out to the world's print media.
Concept Coverage: Developed a plan to provide "realtime" captioned images to worldwide media during the day to day , hour by hour movement of the Olympic Flame across the US.
Implementation: Two photographers needed for coverage, one on Media One, the other, B-roll stills. Digital still camera coverage. Shoot and then edit within moments using MAC laptops onboard Media One. I secured a "state of the art" tracking communications satellite and mounted the unit on the roof of Media One. With the use of the satellite, hundreds of captioned photos were transmitted into a Dallas based internet server over the 62-day event. Worldwide media were instructed to go to the Olympic Torch Relay photo site, browse "realtime" images from the relay and download them for print. Thousands of downloads were logged as media visited the site to look at the images housed there. With thousands of images taken over the 62-days, General Motors published a book "On The Road to Salt Lake City, We Were There," after the conclusion of the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games.
* Media One: The official press vehicle which moves just in front of the Olympic Torch Bearer during the relay. This moving RV also acts as a rolling office for the relay staff.
